John Frost of The Disney Blog is having a special contest to celebrate his son’s birthday. Sounds hobbit-like to me! And though my own birthday is in 8 days, I don’t think I’ll be celebrating in quite the same way… but then I don’t have awesome Disney things.

I have never celebrated a birthday at one of Disney’s theme parks, but I feel like I will be this year, since I’m going to Walt Disney World for the very first time 8 days after my birthday. So soon, both of them! And since this is my 21st birthday, my trip to the World will be a little bit different than if I had gone 8 days ago.

My favorite tip for guests in the parks is to get one large water bottle and refill it at the rare (but definitely there) water fountains. I know I’ve saved a great deal of money for a poor college student by doing this at Disneyland – and I hope to do the same at Disney World.

My favorite theme park attraction is definitely the Matterhorn at Disneyland. I think it has something to do with my few childhood visits to Disneyland, and I pined for it all day when I went to Disneyland last summer with my boyfriend. I didn’t go on it, because he’s extremely sensitive when it comes to roller coasters and anything that might spin or go too quickly, and because, in an indirect sort of way, there wasn’t Fast Pass for the Matterhorn. I went on all the other coasters because I could Fast Pass them and so not make him wait too long by himself… but the Matterhorn was popular enough that I didn’t want to leave him while I stood in line. Didn’t seem fair. And I think it’s definitely because of the Abominable Snowman.

I just bought tickets to see Cirque du Soleil – The Beatles: Love with my mom when we are in Las Vegas. I hope it’s awesome.

I’ve been reading the Complete Sherlock Holmes for the past few days, and I’ve come to the conclusion that there are two particular reasons why the stories of Sherlock are as entertaining now as they were when I was 11:

1) The details of the stories are unique. In many of the other books I read, the plots can be a little unsurprising.
2) The stories are short – I can usually read one in 15 minutes or less. When I have a limited amount of time, such as lunch, it’s nice to have something that’s readable in 15 minutes. Unlike a novel, I’m not annoyed because I’m not putting the book down in the middle of the action.

Yay for Sherlock Holmes.
